The largest Kingfish, or Hāku, in the world are caught around New Zealand. They can be as long as 2.5 metres or as heavy as 70 kilograms!

Kingfish are widely distributed around the North Island and the northern South Island. They are generally a beautiful blue or blue-green colour on their backs, and white-silver below, with a yellow caudal fin.

The hallmark of a Kingfish is its firm, succulent flesh, with a dark colour that lightens when cooked.
