As part of the Cod family, Ling, or Hokarari, is as close as we get to the popular Atlantic Cod.
Ling are mainly caught around the southern half of the South Island and the Campbell Plateau, which is to the south-east of the South Island. They are mainly bottom dwellers and usually found at depths between 300 and 500 metres, but sometimes come more towards the surface when feeding.
Ling may look reminiscent of an eel, with its long, mottled pink body, but they offer great eating for the whole family. Our Ling Fillets are generally thick and portioned to size, with a mild flavour and a large, firm flake. The fillets hold together well so can be cooked in most ways, but we heartily believe a Ling Fillet is the best fish burger fish out there.
